Recreational Basketball Program

Our Recreational Basketball division is designed for players with little or no prior experience in the sport. This division offers a relaxed environment where players can learn the fundamentals of basketball, with an emphasis on developing skills in serving and understanding the game.

Summer Season Details:

• Practice Start Date: mid -June
• Game Dates: June 28th - August 9th 
• Parent Meeting: Saturday, June 7th, 2025

About the Program:
NYS strives to make team formation convenient and inclusive by grouping families based on coach requests, friend requests, and zip codes. If no requests are made, players are placed on a team near their location. After teams are formed, parents/guardians meet to discuss coaching, practice times, and locations.

• Team Coaching: All teams are managed by parent volunteers.
• Practices: Once a week in the evenings, lasting about an hour.
• Games: Held on Saturdays at local schools and private gyms. Game locations may include, but not limited to, Tarkanian Basketball Academy, Lied Boys & Girls Club, Las Vegas Basketball Center, local schools, and more.
• Season Length: Teams practice and play for 7–8 weeks, with game schedules released 7–10 days before the first game.

Division Breakdown:

6U Division: Our 5 to 6-year-old youth basketball league is designed to introduce young players to the fundamentals of basketball in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. This coed league encourages skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while ensuring that every child gets a chance to shine on the court. With modified equipment and rules tailored to their age group, kids can build confidence and enjoy the excitement of the game.

8U Division: Our 7–8-Year-Old Youth Basketball League is a fun, coed program designed to teach fundamental basketball skills, promote teamwork, and build confidence in a supportive and engaging environment. This league focuses on player development and sportsmanship, ensuring every participant has the opportunity to enjoy and grow through the game. Whether your child is new to basketball or looking to enhance their skills, this division provides a positive experience for all.

10U Division: Our 9-10 Year Old Youth Basketball League offers a fun and engaging environment for young athletes to develop their basketball skills, learn teamwork, and build lasting friendships. This coed program welcomes boys and girls of all skill levels, providing equal opportunities for every participant to play and grow in the sport. With a focus on recreation and sportsmanship, this league emphasizes learning, development, and enjoyment of the game.

12U Division: Our 11–12-year-old youth basketball league is a fun and inclusive program designed to teach fundamental basketball skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a supportive environment. Players of all skill levels are welcome to join this exciting division, where they’ll develop their abilities and confidence while making new friends on the court. Games are engaging and competitive, emphasizing player development and enjoyment.

Key Information:

• Coed Teams: Boys and girls play together.
• Minimum Play Rule: Every player gets at least 50% of the game time.
• Required Equipment: Athletic shoes, Basketball
• Included with Registration: NYS jersey, league dues, game facilities, equipment, referee fees, insurance, and administration costs.

Refund Policy:
NYS maintains a no refund policy. However, if you need to cancel your registration, a credit will be applied to your account. Credits never expire and are transferable to other children or sports.
